A post in pictures

In this post I want to share some of the photos I have taken over the years of my cakes and other food. As most of you probably know, I am an avid foodie. Chocolate is my favourite all time food and I can’t envision life without it. It’s even hard not to dwell over chocolate in this post!! I could go on and on endlessly!

As a person, I am more of a sweet tooth than a savoury lover. Therefore I am happy to eat a slice of cake instead of a slice of beef. For example when I am preparing a menu to entertain friends, my initial thought is dessert and I settle that first. Once I know what dessert I’ll be making, then I can get on with the rest of the food.

Entertaining friends and family is an opportunity for me to test and try new ideas in the kitchen. Most of my friends and relatives are willing and eager to be “exploited”. I too will be eager to hear what they have to say. Usually they ask for seconds, so I take that as a good sign.

Trying and testing new recipes and ideas is good fun, but it can also be disappointing at times. I get most of my inspiration before I sleep. I think, I ponder, I wonder and I look forward to putting that thought to life. There are times when those thoughts turn to culinary disasters. However I learn from my mistakes and never give up. The joy of successfully baking something new is fantastic though, and the excitement of tasting it and approving it is even greater.

Through time I learnt how to perfect certain techniques that are fundamental to baking. It’s important to know the does and don’ts of baking as it is also important to know the why. Once the why is mastered I believe it becomes easier to understand certain concepts and to perform better in the kitchen.

One thing of vital importance, is to ensure the best quality ingredients. If the fruit, vegetables, butter, flour, chocolate and so on are all fresh and of good quality then rest assured that something wonderful will turn out when cooking.

Another key “ingredient” in the kitchen is passion. I firmly believe that if you’re passionate about what you do then you’re granted to be happy. I’ve always had a passion for cooking, desserts mostly. I’m happy when I bake and put all my energy into it. I also find that being consistent is the key to becoming successful. I honestly feel that consistency in my work is crucial. I also believe that there is always room for improvement.

On this note, I will end this post. And remember there is always room for dessert! 🙂
